About the Spirit of the London Marathon Awards
The Spirit of the London Marathon Awards were created in 2017 to showcase the unique spirit of the world’s biggest marathon and the extraordinary stories of our participants, champions, volunteers and supporters.
They were created following one of the most iconic moments in modern London Marathon history when, at the end of the 2017 London Marathon, Matthew Rees stopped his run to help fellow competitor David Wyeth complete the final stretch of the race on The Mall.
Rees and Wyeth were among the first recipients of the award. Other notable award winners include the boxer Michael Watson and past champions Paula Radcliffe and David Weir.
